Hi All

Set up 6x2x2 Tank mainly Malawi Cichlids.

Help needed around 9 months ago I lost at least 8 cichlids, one died , a few days later another went and so it went on. Fish looked healthy then suddenly within days became sick then despite various medications, use of Epsom Salts a week later I would lose it, then I would notice another with onset of the same symptoms. Eventually I finally thought I got rid of what ever disease I had.

In the last 2 weeks I have lost 2 cichlids. Have two below with similiar symptoms, from previous experience I know that I will most likely lose.

First one is swollen, skin on one side has a white patch, it is lethargic, sitting on bottom of gravel and will not eat.

Second one is still eating and acting normal, but in last few days has gotten all swollen, again from history will become progressively worse.

Has any one got any ideas on what the heck these cichlids may have and if so what is best treatment.

My water conditions are all good, and in normal range for cichlids.

Thanking all in advance

Never seen fish shaped like that...question is it dropsy or bloat? What do the feces look like?

Post your actual test results for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Do they have white, stringy poo? If so, I would say they have bloat and should be treated wit Metro or Kanaplex.

Sorry for your losses!!!

Can you be more specific on your water test results?

What is your normal water change routine and how much water are you changing?

How long has the tank been set up? The fish in your pics look very mature so just curious how old they are.

Hi All

PH is 8, KH and GH are in range for cichlids, nitrites and ammonia 0, Nitrates lost the chart, light orange. (Dark Orange/Red is bad)

Had tank around 8 years, runs with 2 cannisters. These two are mature had them at least 2 years.

Every second week change two buckets and siphon gravel.

Every other second week change around 20%, at least once a month when do this change I clean (tank water only) a cannister filter. Alternate each time so each filter is cleaned every 8 weeks.

The fish goes from normal to swollen within a week or so. In past I have stopped feeding for a few days, also tried feeding crushed peas only thinking maybe constipation/bloat this has had no effect.

Regards
