This is how my 150g south american tank looks currently. I don't like it. I do like plants but the tank is too deep for me to reach to the problem to get them rooted properly, and despite my strategic placement of rocks around the roots, the geos have managed to dig some up. Plus I think it may be only a matter of time before the severums start snacking on them. So I'm open to suggestions. I want this tank to be a showpiece and right now it is not. Suggestions, comments and pictures welcome!

Sounds to me like you need to make a diy background. Maybe build planters into the background to allow the plants to be properly seated and unable to be uprooted.

You and me both! I want to try one. Check out the DIY section of this forum there are a lot of step by steps.

The general idea is you carve styrofoam into an organic shape, preferably one that hides all in tank equipment like heaters and intakes and outputs, and then you cover it with cement or dryloc and then it makes the tank look awesome.
