This is just a guess, but I would remove them as the fumigant would probably find it's way into the tank. I would remove the fish and filters and totally seal the tank. perhaps with plastic and tape. Once the apartment was cleared for habitation, I would remove the cover add the filters and fish. The filters would have to be kept alive for the duration, by perhaps running them in a runnermaid container, with the fish.

Do a search in General Aquaria, I think I've read about this before. What I recall is you can leave the fish in the tank but all would be covered with plastic and sealed. And something about venting air pumps to the outdoors to avoid pumping contaminated air into the tanks.

Might be easier to remove them though, and give you more peace of mind.

Not sure how long it takes between when you have to leave and when you can return.
