i'm a new bee can u tell me what is HOBs. this forum rocks! another question for my fluval 305 canister filtration system i'm having trouble finding out what type of media to get to put in my trays, rite now i hav carbon, the ceremic rings, & the foam sponges there is 1 basket left, what do i put in it. i have a 55 gal. tank with 5 very aggressive cichlids 2 which are @ least 4-5".

You could put more foam in that last basket for more water polishing/clarity. Also remember to periodically change the carbon because it loses its effectiveness. Many people only use carbon for filtering medications or removing smells from the aquarium. Good luck

thank you. i don't have any problems with the smell (yet)lol. what are good options for cichlids? bio balls, ceremic rings, ammonia remover?

I also have a 305. You don't need the carbon unless your removing meds. Otherwise its completely useless and costly. There is also no need for ammonia remover. 1st in a propery cycled tank you shouldn't have any ammonia that needs to be removed. This is done by your benificial bacteria. 2nd ammonia remover added in a tank that is currently cycling could prolong the cycling process.

In my 305 I have the rings, sponges and filter floss (Pillow stuffing) in the rest of the compartments. Its super cheap (Walmart has it) and does a nice job polishing the water. You could also add more rings or pot scrubbies. Keeping it simple seems to work best.
