I find aquarium's at times do not give my A D D enough stimulus. You should not throw off the balance when the tanks are running perfectly. Growing Algae in the sunlight is something you can play with. Not to much an issue when you do not have filtration or fish. Throwing off the balance is not a problem. Fun trying different things to get good algae growth. Still have not created carpet algae. The green rocks are useful to fry and a river tank. Just rotate the rocks every 2 to 3 weeks. One time I had a Hillstream loach hitch a ride on the rotating rocks. Heaven to a scraper. I like that I can use my out of date fish food for Nitrogen. Put a bit if 20 20 20 in. Flow the water with a wave maker, heat it, and lately I hooked up my CO2. Just enjoy playing with it without having a disaster

Does the sunlight ever shine directly into that window? In the summer months, I moved my own 33 gallon ‘long’ algae grower tank outside, where it could get direct sunlight. The algae grew like crazy in that thing! Green water, etc…. I was even scraping that stuff off of the inside glass, to feed like fresh harvested sheets of ‘nori’ to my Cichlids.

Yes, not direct sunshine. Has to go through a pane of glass. The open side i put my AC vent to keep the room cool in summer months. The water does get very green. I was wondering if i could use the green water.
Every week I change the water, just so the sun can pierce through the glass

When pulled indoors during the winter months, my own ‘furry rock grower’ ran with a set of T-5 fluorescent lights kept on 24/7. And yes…. All of the algae growing ‘festivities’ seemed to slow down just bit with the tank kept like that, but they definitely didn’t stop. :sneaky:
