I just bought a red flame gourmi from the lfs. When i brought it home I notice it had some kind of hump on its head just (like some ciclids do).I was wondering if it could be some kind of hybrid or just bad genes. Sorry i can't post pictures.
humps or lumps on gouramis almost always never seem to be a good sign. How does it affect its swimming? what does the lump look like? are you talking about a nucchal hump like frontosas have? update us.
My mother has two dwarf gouramis with what look a lot like nuchal humps an have shown no signs of ill health as of yet because of it. I am guessing it is just bad breeding I don't know of anything that a gourami would hybridize with that would give them that hump. If you do a quick google search for gourami images you might see that some of the dwarfs do have a sort of bump shape to their head.
