ok i have a quick question. i was looking in my 405 and i know it has the different areas for different stuff. do i only add 1 polishing pad or can i add 2 and also the same with teh carbon can i put more then 1 in there. i was also told that the prefilter things go in the last bin in the filter. could some of you guy that run the 405 explain to me how you have your stuff in the filter. i just want to make sure that everything is in the right place. thanks

I have a 305 with one less media compartment. I run bags of crushed coral in the bottom tray to help buffer my water. In the middle tray i run the bio media and in the top tray I have filter floss (quilt batting, does the same as a polishing pad and is much cheaper). Yes you can run more than one polishing pad but I would keep it in the top compartment. This way your water passes through your polishing pad last before returning to your tank. As far as the carbon goes it is pretty useless unless your removing medications from your tank or possibly to absorb orders. It also doesn't last very long and can get expensive. Save it in case you need to remove medications but I wouldn't even bother using it. Your much better using more bio media or polishing pads/filter floss. Hope this answers your questions.

thanks for your response. the way i have mine set up know is i have the floss in the last tray. above that is the carbon, then in the next tray is clearmax. and in the top one is the bio-max. i was told to put the pre-filter stuff in the last tray. and the bi-media always goes in the top as the water should be filtered by then. this is the first canister i have delt with. not really liking it. i didn't really notice a differance with the polishing pads in there. i might just switch back to my wet/dry filter as its still running. thanks again for your response.
