I have a question do it matter if my nitrite is 0 and my ammonia is 0.25 ppm shouldn't my ammonia be 0 first ? The other day my ammonia was 1.0 ppm and my nitrite was at 5ppm . Waiting for both to read 0 then add ammonia to get it back to 2ppm then wait 24hrs to test .

it is pretty common for the nitrite to spike and go to zero but still get a small reading of ammonia. I am not convinced the ammonia it really there but rather this may be a false positive. The ammonia test kit gives more false positives at low levels than the nitrite kit.

In any case, I would not wait to add more ammonia - add some now and see what you get in 24 hours.
