When I got home from work today, I noticed my yellow lab was holding. The problem is, I don't have any other labs in this tank. Hybrids! Not that I don't like hybrids, but I don't have anywhere to put them and I don't want to give them away to unsuspecting victims either. So, I stripped her. I've never stripped a holding fish before, I tried, but was always too nervous about the whole thing. Today I manned up and just did it. I felt bad for the gal, but she looks to be doing okay after the whole ordeal. Probably better than me. Ended up with 25 eggs, and a snail. I fed them to my mbuna. At first they were skeptical, but after they got a taste for them they couldn't get enough.

Question: She still looks like she has a bulge in her throat and is attempting to swish the eggs around in her mouth, even though I know there are no more, or shouldn't be. Is that normal after stripping? Or is it possible she still has an egg, or two, or three.

It takes a few days for the buccal sack to shrink back down and for her to 'get back to normal'. If there are extra eggs she will still not be eating in a few days.

BTW - You can always just let her spit in the tank - the fry usually won't last more than a few minutes.
