so my red empress finally released her fry

there are around 20 of them


heres the baby daddy



the female still takes them back into her mouth when she feels a threat. any idea how long before i put the female back into the display tank with the male?

Congrats! Assuming you have other females already in the tank with the male, you can put her back any time before she starts eating the fry.

Dad is a fine looking chap so the babies should be great.

what tank/set up you got for them? oh and what you feeding them on?

theres 2 more females in the display with the male....

i've got the fry in a 15 gallon long with a HOB filter (put a sponge in the intake to keep them from getting sucked in)

just feeding them crushed NLS flake and feeding the mother NLS pellets

Depends on water changes and food. (and no stress, like larger fish)

I think my mbuna fry went from birth to 1" in about 3 months, I'd have to confirm my Excel Aquarium chart though.

However, not sure Peacocks grow at similar rates as mbuna.

That's a hap, you are talking about the empress, right? They take much longer than mbuna.

what if i feed them steroid injected food? and throw in a mini barbie gym?

will they bulk up faster?

good food and clean water with frequent changes will dictate the growth rate. But be careful tring to get them to grow too fast causes issues. Be patient and enjoy watching them grow.

By the way Baby Daddy looks awesome congrats.
