Is there any reason why I cannot use a large glass or stainless steel lily pipe in a 4ft aquarium with cichlids?

I don't see why not though the glass lily pipe may be more prone to break in a tank of rowdy cichlids.

What species of fish are you considering stocking in this tank?

Are you considering using lily pipes for a particular reason such as directing flow, using live plants or injecting CO2?
