I have a Marineland canister filter on my tank along with a Cascade canister filter. The tank is an established 125 gallon with Malawi cichlids. I'm removing the Marineland filter to replace with a Fluval FX5 and was wondering if this filter needed to filter before adding it to the tank or if I could add it along side the Cascade. I don't want to kill my fish obviously.

What he said. Run the fx5 for a bit to seed the bio filter then remove the filter you don't need after a week or two, or three.

My 2¢, you will be fine with the FX5 alone ONCE you get the bacteria in it - so follow their advice, but then you can keep the cascade as emergency/backup or better yet, another tank!

I was thinking to myself when I posted that the tank was going to have ridiculous filtration.
