I am debating whether I should purchase another filter. Hubby wants a cansiter filter so that he doesn't have to listen to the water. We have a 135 gal. with a Rena xp4 plus a Penguin 1140. I am worried that we don't have enough filteration for this tank. So I am looking at a Fluval FX5 to add to it. I have a couple of casades filters but Hubby doesn't want to use these. So last night he came and gave me money to get a new filter so that I won't worry about it and he would have to hear the water :roll:
Does anyone see my dilemma? How to make everyone happy and not worry about my babies. :?
We have a good mix of mbunas in there and they are very entertaining, and I want them to stay that way.

I don't understand why you're so unwilling to set up a canister? The FX5 is a great filter and I haven't heard anything bad about them. I got a cascade for free with my 75 gallon and it was junk. It felt cheap, it was cheap, i was constantly worried that it would stop working correctly and either flood my dining room or stop moving water.

The 925gph puts you at just over 7x turnover. If you're worried about needing more, get some powerheads w/ sponge filters to move dead spots.

I am not unwilling to go with the cansister. I just not willing to spend the money when I am not sure it's needed. But I think that I am going to go ahead and do it. It will make Hubby happy and the :fish: happy. And now i have to figure out what to do with the casade filter LMAO :lol:

well if you calulate best dollar vs dollar, or gph vs gph...its propably best to get (two) rena xp3 to go with your xp4...this will give your 135g tank more than 8.5 X turnover. if you decide to get the FX5 you are paying roughly the same amount but your losing out on 100 gph to your asset...not to mention your water flow wont be as even as having two xp3 on the sides and xp4 in the center. rena filstar canister are pretty quiet so your hubby wont be bother by them :thumb:

BTW: your current turnover is about 3.3 most people have theirs at 7 or higher
