What would happen if i connected a mag drive 18 to the output of my eheim 2028 to run my ugj system? Would this damage the eheim or improve the efficiency of the pump? The reason I thought of this is so the MD18 would not get sand or debris in the impeller housing. I would add a prefilter but I don't have enough room behind my diy background.
All input would be greatly appreciated. This is the most informative site on the web and I figured someone that knows more than me might be able to help me out. Thanks

Short answer is BAD idea......it can be very tricky having two pumps in-line. Without a serious series of controls, one or both motors can have early failure. Better to just get a prefilter unit for your MD.

Since you don't have room for a prefilter, you could look at some the DIY canister filter threads here. It would be a backup filter, prefilter the Mag, and power the ugj. The Mag pump is water cooled, so be aware the smaller the tank, the more the water will be warmed up. This could just mean your heater will run less.
