i have a fluval 405 and a 305. should i ever replace the biomax in them? i know the directions say every 6 months. and should i ever replace the sponges?

this is what i do now. rinse bio max and sponges out with old aquarium water, i dont do both at the same time either, like a month apart.

Just keep rinsing the sponges till they are falling apart then get new ones. As far as the biomax, as long as you water conditions are doing good in your tank I wouldn't worry about replacing it. JMHO

The biomax and sponges both offer biological filtration. Pathogenic bacteria don't typically adhere to either.
