I am taking a filter out of service and putting a new one in its place. Because of the beneficial bacteria on the old one I'm afraid I'll mess up the water specs if I remove it. So in the interim I'm running both filters in the tank. How long do I need to run the new filter in the tank before I take out the old one?

Usually 2 to 4 weeks is the recommended time.

Or put the new filter in place with fresh media...

...and place the old media in front of the new media to "seed" the new media...
