FH food OPTIONS???

1759 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  mr.fuji
Right now all i can find that he will eat is cichlid pellets and live goldfish. I've tried freeze dried shrimp, my oscars and other fish eat them, but the FH won't, he won't eat live worms either. Whats another option??? The reason i ask is bc i'd like to give him treats like the shrimp i give my others, it just seems like he's too picky :zz:

cut the feeder fish ASAP, way to easy to transfer parasites to your fish.

i feed my flowerhorns NLS, Omega One, Chingmix (not always recommended), Frozen Bloodworms, Frozen Krill, Frozen MYSIS, just to name a few.
Theyre not treats for the fish if he won't eat them...

You can try live ghost shrimp. They won't transfer parasites to your FH so no worries there. Even if your FH won't eat them, it won't be a problem as they will eat algae in the tank, etc....

As far as other foods, my FH had the same problem. Seemed like she was kinda picky at first. So I added some liquid garlic to her food and presto amazo she eats everything now! Not only is the garlic an appetite stimulant but it also has the added benefit of keeping internal parasites under control. I give garlic soaked food to all my fish at least once a week as a preventative. You can buy this at your LFS it's usually used for saltwater fish to entice wild fish to eat. Or, you can buy garlic from the grocery store and liquify it yourself.....just use the juice not the actual pieces!! Just add a couple of drops to the food and let them soak a few minutes.

HTH :D

i have to disagree with you in the statement that Ghost shrimp wont pass parasites to your flowerhorn. all though the parasites dont kill the ghost shrimp, all invertebrates are actually the carriers of parasites, the parasites can and do thrive on ghost shrimp.
I have to disagree with you Gage! Ich is a fish specific parasite. They cannot survive on inverts...

I agree with heylady,I'm not really sure about internal parasites, but ich would not be able to attach onto a ghost shrimp.
