Female JD (i think, but she is very dark-essentially black over most of her body) laid hundreds of eggs for the second time. The first time around she laid about half the current number but the eggs didn't hatch. I'm not sure they have been fertilized as the male is very lethargic (not unlike myself). He is not helping fan the eggs nor does he chase any tankmates unlike my male convict who bit the back of my thumb and drew blood! (COOL!) I removed the other two JD's in my 55G as the female became very territorial. Any thoughts or suggestions?

raw oysters??..haha

The ones left in the tank, are they actually a pair or just a male you were hoping would seal the deal? What were the sex of the other 2 JDs that you removed from the tank?

The female does seem to do most of the egg guarding. If you removed all the other fish, there simply may be nothing for the male to do...no one to chase away. I don't think I've ever seen my male JDs fan the eggs.
