Well the tank hit 83 over the weekend so I had to set up the fan so that it blew across the water. I have a smaller version of this:

But I'm not to comfortable with it sitting above the water with just a piece of egg crate to prevent it from falling in. It's not on the egg crate but just off to the side resting on the glass top and trim. And the power cord is pulled tight so there is no slack in case I bump it.

I would like to try the zoo med fan:

but I don't know how powerful it would be. Anyone own one, have any other ideas?

PC fans, power supply from radio shack and a diy mount...you can integrate them into your hood several ways, or make a classy mount if you dont run a hood...

plus some fancier ones have adjustable speed

There are a variety of ways to cool a tank. Many people use fans available at Home Depot or Walmart, because it doesn't cost much and can bring the temperature of the water down several degrees. This is very important with the summer months approaching...
