Hi,
I hope someone can help - my electric blue has what looks like skin over one of his eyes. He is eating fine but cannot see out of his eye at all. I think he can still see underneath it because i can see him moving it around. All the other fish are fine, its just him. I have done water changes but nothing has fixed it. Should i treat it with Melafix? and should i put him in another tank to treat? will Melafix hurt my other fish if i keep him in the main tank? :-?

thank you

Hi,

Sounds like cloudy eye which can be caused by poor water conditions, a bacterial infection or an injury to the eye.
Pristene water condtions may be all this fish needs to recover however adding Melafix will likely speed healing. And no, it won't hurt your other fish to be treated with the Melafix. Ideally you want to avoid treating any fish that isn't sick but as long as you don't do it on a regular basis it won't be a problem.

Try doing daily or every other day partial water changes along with the Melafix. If you don't notice any kind of improvement in a week then you may need to treat with an antibiotic. If the fish starts to show other symptoms such as white or fuzzy growth on his body or a change in his behavior--stops eating, becomes lethargic, then you want to remove him and start treatment with antibiotic ASAP.

Generally speaking cloudy eye is NOT a serious condition but it does require some action on your part to prevent it from turning into something worse. :(
