Don't you HATE it when someone tells you how to IMPROPERLY care for your fish.
I know I shouldn't let it bother me, but someone posted I do too much water changes on my mbuna tank on YouTube.
It shouldn't bother me, but it shows how uneducated some fishkeepers are, and how many unhappy fish there must be out there.
I have over 40 fish in my 90 gallon, mostly demasoni, some labs, some white top haras, some acei, and a single L. trewavasae female (long story)
Anyway...Please don't chuckle...
I was told ten gallons per week was enough of a water change.
I was told I was very wrong to do 30-60 gallons per week.
I've been doing that, and my tank has been running fine, lots of babies, for two years now. OVER two years now, I set up with cycle fish the end of 2005.
Just thought you'ld ALL like to know, I've been corrected, all these years of dedication to my tanks has been in vain, and 10 gallons per week is enough (chuckle)
( and no, I'm not changing my water changing practices)

I haven't stopped by in awhile, thought I'd drop in and see what folks are up to.

I guess every hobby has it's share of people who aren't quite as knowledgable as they think, but are eager to share their "experience" and "wisdom". Smile, nod, pretend to listen, and then go back to what you know works. :thumb:

We've made peace.
Apparently they commented before realizing I've overstocked the 90 gallon
:)
Yes, I'm very passionate about my fish.
A romantic evening out on the town with hubby of course always has to end at the fish store. Right?
LOL.
I've got to learn to be calm about such "miscommunications"

I have had these fish for four years now, and still feel like I'm learning MORE about them all the time. I don't think one person CAN know it all. Unless perhaps their last name is Konings, then maybe. But if we all "know it all" how can advancements be made in our hobby?

I'm glad for this site. I'm always looking into other species and learning all I can. Oh, poor hubby, other "romantic" trips sometimes end at the library or book store, so I can get more fish books. LOL -- because you know that is my PERFECT DATE.

It takes a lot, to love a fish lover. :)

As much research as I have done on my tanks, it is never enough. That's why we all end up back here. And we always know more than they do at our LFS, thanks to knowledgeable people and sites like these!

Well I must be a real fruitloop because I always do a 50% change per week and if that doesn't bring my nitrates down under 20 (which it usually doesn't anymore) I do another. One time I missed a week  and had to do 3  .

There are idiots everywhere, I had one video that showed 3 of my tanks, my Malawi tank was the primary tank in the video, I then switched a tank that had severums and other SA/CA cichlids in it.. and it was noted as such.. the comment? "Severums don't look right in a malawi tank". It wasn't a malawi tank!!!

Maybe this guy was just trying to get under your skin, that's a possibility. I do about 30% per week and I know it's not enough!

Had a LFS owner tell me that my Nitrates were as low as he had ever seen in such a tank.. 30ppm. Really? You've never seen a african tank(established) with that low of a PH?

I had another guy who bred Petricola say that he hadn't changed his water in months, he just refills it when it's down and his fish breed like crazy. Wonder how off the scale his nitrates are!

Everyone has a different take, but usually I see people telling peopl like him to do more water changes, that's why I suspect a troll.
