I have had my water testing kit for about 2 years now and I was wondering how often you should replace them. I currently have the kind you have to mix yourself. Little glass beaker and so on. Just curious.

The reagents definitely do expire; I had an old nitrate test kit that gave me insanely high and inconsistent readings. I thought I was about to kill my fish by nitrate poisoning until I got a new kit.

Two (2) years shouldn't be too long!

If you use the API nitrate kit, be sure you shake the reagent #2 VERY hard for at least a minute before adding it to the test vial!
