For the last year I've used one of those plastic, tape on the back of your aquarium backgrounds. It gets dirty and looks unsightly over time because of water stains.

The question is, do I try to make a DIY styrofoam background or just paint the back of my tank, say black?

It seems that the painting option is a lot easier.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

What size is the tank? Those DIY styro backgrounds take up space in the tank. Painting has to be easier too.

The depth of your tank plays a huge role in whether or not you should go with the DIY background. They will take up a good amount of space and if you have say a standard 55g that will take up most of your room.

Painting is always the easier option

I have a standard rectangular 75gallon tank.

I already have a bunch of Texas Holy Rock. Maybe I should just go with the black painted background I was thinking about.

Thanks.
