In the past I have used 4x4s on top of concrete blocks for stands with styrofoam on top of the wood to adjust any imperfections in the wood. I'm am setting up a 125gallon and the floor is smooth but uneven. I'm thinking of switching to small red bricks in 3 pillars with no wood. I know 4 pillars works but I haven't tried 3. I know a local breeder who uses 3 pillars and styrofoam on a number of 240 gallon tanks. I hate the look of concrete blocks and the 4x4s aren't consistent for very long. Is 3 pillars good enough with styrofoam for a 125 gallon? Thanks

the trouble with brick stacks is that they have a small footprint relative to height. this makes them likely to tip over if lateral forces are applied. sure, if you are only going two or three high it's fine, but a stack two feet high will not be stable.
