How big is it? I doubt they ate the whole thing. It's probably just hiding real good. Hope you find it let us know.

I have had entire fish disappear overnight... Sometimes I will find the remains in a cave and sometimes not. I am pretty sure they are eaten. If he isn't in there, he is either eaten or jumped out and is somewhere on the floor. Have you looked around the tank and especially under furniture near by? I think he was probably eaten though!

Sometimes when my Mbuna are holding they get quite reclusive. But the get even more reclusive when they're dead behind a rock.

Good luck.

*** looked around the area yes... i see nothing. there were no signs of sickness or stress so i am not sure what happened other than BIG JOE wanting to spawn with the fish or something and the fish didnt want to LOL.  but he's never attacked a fish like that before, but you never know he is an Mbuna right?

i will keep looking for him/her... they are about 3 inches long some are 2 inches. i doubt he/she is holding and hiding since *** been looking all day and i see nothing. i fear the worst has happened. not too happy abotu it either.

I had one disappear without a trace. It was acting lethargic and not eating. After getting some advice here, I figured it may have bloat and I planned to catch it, put it in a hospital tank and treat it. But by the time I got home it was nowhere in sight. Never did see it (or any part of it) again. This was several months ago.

I was missing a couple small fish the other day. Did a water change and saw nothing. When I was all done the water change and the tank was all sparkley clean, my larger red zebra swam down in to the cave and brought up a shell from a pea and dropped it in front of me. Then he swam back down grabbed something else and deposited that next to the shell from the pea. It was a fish head. Guess he was telling me I didn't do a good job of cleaning his house. Nevertheless... I know what happened to the small fish. That being said. I've seen 1 head for 4 small fish that have disappeared this week.

Most of my "mysteries" like this end up either being a fish that jumped and was eaten by the cat or dog, or I end up finding some sort of skeletal remains when doing a good cleaning. Some fish, I honestly never see, but thos have been small fish in a tank of large ones. If the fish are the same size, I doubt it.. the remains may have slipped under a rock, or he's hiding really good.. I don't think your kids ate him.

Then again, he good have 'poofed' to a parallel universe.. hmmmm...
