When they are both less than 3-4 inches (before the phenochilus start getting spots), what is the most differentiating feature between Placidochromis Electra and Placidochromis phenochilus "Tanzania." And will adult females phenochilus look like electras?

No, adult female phenochilus typically have more of a blue/grey color to them w/ dark blue barring. No where near as vivid as an electra.

So it sounds like the females version of the phenos will be darker and the electras will have more of a light torqouise color, thanks.
What about the question regarding the males? Same answer? because when I look at the pictures of juvies/young males in the profiles of each, the pictures are pretty similar.

A male once he starts to turn or show the blue sheen we never show barring. At least in the 20+ I've grown out. Obviously the speckles is another dead giveaway, but that takes awhile.

Ok, here are pictures of my "pheno," any way to tell if it is male/female? I'd say it is about 3.5 inches, maybe a little more. In a 150g mixed hap/peacock tank. This fish is not the most dominant, but also does not get picked on, somewhere in the middle of the pack.
