Right i need good advice on how to go about do this, i will be fishless cycling, i want to make sure i get the job done properly and ready for fish to go in.

I cant get a hold of mature filter media, will this matter?

Advice appreciated.

Fitler media shortens the cycling time, but not needed. There are bacteria products available that can help shorten cylcing time also. See this

I think that's a powder and while it may work, liquid ammonia would be better.
Check your local grocer or hardware store, just be sure it doesn't have any other additives or perfumes.

Active media from an established filter will dramatically eliminate time for cycling - just add ammonia to 1-2ppm (depending on your bioload), wait for 24 hours and check if it goes away.

I've been able to move filters around and setup new tanks without any issues.

Yes, works perfectly fine. I keep forgetting about that stuff. It'd be a great option for those that can't find the right bottled ammonia. And no risk of surfactants, perfumes, etc. :thumb:
