The tank has cycled, the stocking list has been chosen and it is time for the cycle fish to move on. Well, except that we have taken kinda an unexpected liking to these mollys and platys. In fact they have already spawned twice in the tank. We are now considering leaving them with their new shellie companions (occies). What do you think? I don't want the occies to kill them all, that would be sad. This would be a single pair of occies, or maybe 1 male and a couple females in a 20. Any one use these fish as dithers? They seem ideal, they like the water params and would provide a steady source of fry for the others.

When my occies started breeding they would attack anything that came within about a foot or so of their shell. If there is enough space in your tank so that the mollies and platys can stay at least that far away, they should be ok.

That's exactly what I did with my tank. So I have a tanganikya tank with Calvus, Multis, Zebra danios and orange platties/mollys (whatever they are i dont really know)! Kinda weird but I'm not gonna kill them or bother taking them to the fish store.

Still planning on adding cyps but can't really get them around here, so in the meantime the danios and mollies take up the top portion of the tank.

When I get around to keeping altos I had the idea of keeping them with a group of mollies. Figured they'd make good dithers plus the fry would give the altos opportunity to do their thing.

Well the ones in my tank now are producing fry already so I think my calvus will be happy campers when they come in this week. :thumb:
