Hi Crenicichla specialists here.

About a year ago, I bought some juvenile Crenicichla alta, or at least that's how they were sold as. They looked quite dull, at least according to my wife, but I wanted to try these as I had no previous experience with Crenicichla, but had been reading up on them.

While considering them, I could not find much information online about the alta species at least.

So, this is how they looked like when I got them :

And this is how they look like today (quite hard to have good shots from them as they are very active) :

Here is a short video from them :

One is a tad smaller than the other, but both have quite prominent pink/red bellies.
Is there anyone here who could confirm these are alta's or suggestions what other species they could be and do I have a couple or 2 (fe)males ?

Thanks.

Well, the red bellies indicate that both are definitely females. They are certainly saxatilis complex, but I'm having trouble myself finding dependable info on Crenichla alta. Vin Kutty's archived species list seems to indicate that ID is very likely correct.

Thanks. I might have a challenge finding a male. These are very rare to come by here. But I am very happy how these 2 turned out to look like actually.
