Copadichromis are utaka, haps that feed on zooplankton. Feeding near rocks but in the water column minimizes competition, but increases vulnerability to predators. Spawning occurs throughout the year. Fry are released among plants or along rocky shorelines and form large shoals, becoming prey for other fish. The head is more pointed than C. pleurostigma. C. pleurostigmoides claims a territory on top of a large rock. Males have a white blaze on a dark blue body. Females have two or three spots with yellow fins.
