I have a 20 gallon tank and a 55 gallon tank, that I want to try to connect the water flow between. Maybe with overflow boxes or something. But I don't even know where to start.

My 20 gallon is for fry, and the 55 hold all my other fish.

Also the way I have the tanks set up, the 20 gallon top water line sits above the 55 gallon water line.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If the 20 is above the 55 you will have to have it dropping into the 55 then pump it back up again.

There is a design for you to follow. The 55 will have to have a lowered water volume to allow for a possible power outage. I guess if you had a third tank you could use that as your sump and then filter both that way and just build two of the link above. I'm not positive of your setup but I'd say those are your options.
