So I really do not think it is a problem as my yellow comp has had this issue for quite some time; however, he has a sack on his jaw and carries some substrate around in it. Is this a common thing.... will it go away..... and so on......

When you say "on his jaw" do you mean the lower portion near his gills or the front portion near his lips? If it's near his lips I'm guessing we're talking about Horse face where the fish's jaw gets stuck extended due to a torn ligament. "horse Face" is fairly common and may or may not go away, it can, I guess, be described as a translucent growth like a sac which, I suppose would be capable of picking up debris and sand from time to time until water or fish movement shook said debris off/out of it.

Horse face doesn't hurt them it only makes them goofy looking. They can eat normally in the aquarium but won't do well with fighting or territorial disputes so keep that in mind if that's what it is.

if it isn't I'm afraid pics will be needed.
