Hi all,

I have a 90G tank set up with 11 cichlids
4 yellow labs
4 afra Coubes
3 Demasoni

The tank is 2ft tall and I have about 9 inches of stacked slate and lava rock.
I am a bit worried because I never see them outside of their hiding spots. They are always behind the rocks or just where the they would come out but they're hardly ever swimming around. Even when I feed them they are very timid.

They are all small (1.5')

I tested the water and it seem ok. Is this normal behaviour?

Thank you!

they will get more secure in their home as they settle in, but mbuna are rock dwelling cave lovers. I think they will tend to hide much more than other species.

For me the first day or two my new fish hid a lot. Then they wouldn't stop begging at the front of the glass for food. Then a few days ago I monkeyed around with their filters and now they scatter if I even move slightly towards their tank. They'll get over the "trauma" and swim openly soon.
