Many mbuna can start spawning as small as 1.5" such as yellow labs and demasoni. I believe saulosi is among them.

That does not mean most labs-demasoni-saulosi will spawn at 1.5", it is at the earliest end of the range. If you have a spawn of 20 yellow labs you may have one female that will spawn at 1.5" and the other 9 may take longer.

OK thanks guys, that's what I figured. Sounds like I'll start seeing some action soon enough. Any tips to trigger the mood?

If they are healthy and comfortable (not stressed) females will grow eggs and breed at around 2" and over. Females need to have eggs to drop to breed. The males are in the mood if they are alive.
