Has anyone ever used Cerum Oxide to buff out scratches in their tanks? I've recently set up a new tank, My question is quite a lot of the Cerum Oxide got into a fake background that Im using, even tho i covered it up, it's a very fine white powder as you know. I've done a really good clean up job, however there is some of the powder still stuck to the background ( a very small residual amount ), if i cannot get it all out is it likely to pose a problem for the fish when I re-introduce them to the tank? I.e is it toxic to them?
Anyone have any experience with this stuff? What were results?

From what I've read Cerium Oxide has been used on aquarium glass with no problems. But can't say for certain the residual amount will hurt them. If you did a good clean up, my GUESS would be it would be ok but I can't say for sure. I would rinse the tank as well as possible, complete a fishless cycle and maybe throw some cheaper fish in there to see if there are any problems. Just make sure your LFS will take your "test" fish back once you no longer need them.
