I have a 4' x 18" x 18" 40 gal tank. I have no idea what I can stock in it.
I have a 50 where i already have yellow labs, couple of peacocks and what not.
What i was thinking was doing a species tank but is my 40 too small?
I like tropheus but everyone says they are difficult to manage...
if someone could lead me in a direction of a certain species or nice looking fish i would appreciate it

I believe one of your measurements may be wrong. An important question is whether or not you've measured the length correctly. The would be a difference in what you could stock in a 48" tank vs. a 36" tank. A 40 gal. high tank is 36" long.

Yes that would be around 38 gallons or so. When you say species tank are you thinking in multiples? Just trying to get a good assessment of your thoughts.
