I know this may be a stupid question...But I used to work at a LFS years ago...and my boss/owner would recycle his carbon...leave the used carbon out side and let it sun dry for a few weeks. opcorn:
and use over and over again for 1 year... :-?

also how long does carbon last?
as u know black diamond is kinda expensive to change every month... :fish:

Once the carbon has been expelled, you can't put it back. Used carbon is pretty much useless.

Used carbon is pretty much useless.

So is new carbon for that matter, just run the filter without it, it's not necessary. Keep some on hand for removing medications or strange odours but as regular filter media, it's a waste of money IMO.
