I am currently setting up an old 29g as a grow out tank. I bought an Emperor 400 as my filter but it does not fit between the brace and the side of the tank. Now I know that brace is there for support and is very important in large tanks, but with only a 29g tank do you think it would be safe to remove it? I'm pretty sure I can fabricate a new brace and move it over but in the meantime, I do not want any problems. Thanks in advance for your imput.

Is the brace there to support the sidewalls or just hold the hood in place? Also, it would help if we knew the thickness of your glass at the front and back and the dimensions of the tank itself.

I have a standard 29 gallon 30" long, 12"deep and 18" high with 3/16" thick glass and no center brace. It holds water just fine. :)

The brace is thier to handle the stress of the additional hieght. I wouldn't remove it. :(

You might consider another filter. I would recommend a small cannister. You can place them anywhere.

Its at least 8+ years old but I kept it in very good condition. The glass is 3/16" thick. The measurements seem pretty strange. Its 30"L 12" wide but its about 22 1/2" high. So I'm exactly sure how much it holds.
That's a 35 US gal tank if the below is right. It more than likely needs that brace with that height.
