Can dried out moss come back to life?

I have some dried out driftwood that had some moss on it. When I put it in the tank the moss lookes like it's coming back to life. The moss has been dried out for at least 6 months. Is this possible? or is it the waters just rehydrating it and it looks green but not alive?

6 months? That's a long time, but seems possible.

I know that I've had Fissidens fontanus moss totally dried out for a week. I put it back in and it "reanimated."
