Do Calvus eat trumpet snails? I have some trumpets snails in my tank and they have been fine for a while. 3 weeks ago I got some Calvus and recently, I've seen several trumpet snail shells totally empty. I don't think anything else in the tank would touch them. I have Brevis, Julies, cyps and Daffodils in there too. The only one I suspect are the Calvus.

The only time I have seen altolamps mess with snails, are to move them out of the shell or cave. I never seen them go around and try to eat snails.

I have the snail infestation and my calvus don't seem to eat them. Sometimes they will pick them off the rocks to spit them out somewhere else, but I've never seen them eating them. The empty shells your seeing are probably just the remnants of dead snails.

Me too (snail infestation with Calvus). I would not say they are snail eaters.

I'll agree with the other posters. My altolamps seem to ignore the snails in the tanks.

Hmm... I'm wondering who's doing it then. Or maybe the snails are just dying off on their own?

gunnerx: Malaysian Trumpet Snails are not terribly long lived. My setups have hundreds of empty shells mixed into the substrate. You likely have nothing to panic about. It would appear you are seeing their natural life cycle.
