I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these guys?
One of my females is holding a small clutch and so far she is not being harassed much by the males. These are wild fish so I do not know how much that changes what you do with them (i am expecting they are better parents in general)

My questions are...
Is anything out of the normal mouthbrooder norm that I should know about with these guys?

How long do you wait to strip the females?

Would you isolate the female into her own tank ?

Thanks!!

I have never kept these guys but... from what I have read, treat them like any Callochromis, expect they are a lot less aggressive than the rest.

I would think 18-20 days they would be good to go. But, again no actual expereince. Maybe Brett will chime in as he has kept them.

When I was keeping Callochromis I didn't remove the females.

Im really loving these guys.
One of the males has made 3 spawning pits but they have such a spastic character.
One second hes displaying then hes chasing away males and females....
Nice thing is that it really is species specific and they leave alone my Cyps and other friends.

I do not really have a camera (just a cell phone)

the closest i have is this right now

I will soon though :)
I can now see little eyes in the females mouth so things appear to be going well.

I have a trio of males and 4 females and the fighting has really escalated among the males.

I thought 180 with enough proper line of site breaks should keep that down but i think the males are pretty evenly matched.... For a while they were posturing flaring gills and displaying but today i saw a couple of all out fights :-(

Update:

I have moved the female off into her own tank. I didnt think with all the small trophs

The female started holding on april 28.

I think I will let her release them naturally into their new 20 gallon long.

Is there anything I should add to the tank?
