Hey all,

I am in the process of stocking a 55g mbuna tank and was wondering if anyone had a good way of measuring the effect of my sponge filters. Right now I'm running a SunSun 304B and two sponge filters hooked up to a Tetra Whisper 60 air pump. I was playing around on aqadvisor.com trying to come up with an ideal stocking level for this setup and filtration level but was unsure how to go about estimating the impact of my sponge filters on the overall filtration levels. Does anyone have a good way of estimating the impact?

Sponge Filters: 2x "XY 2893" corner sponge filters from ebay
Air Pump: Tetra Whisper 60 air pump

I have no idea how to calculate the effect of your sponges, but, the Sunsun 304b flows plenty for a 55 gallon tank and will hold more than enough media to handle a heavily stocked tank.

Maybe you're overthinking it a bit too much?
If the Sunsun is big plenty big enough for the tank size, then don't worry too much about the sponge filters. Just monitor your water parameters occasionally and the general health and look of your fish.
