My leptosoma bred a couple times, held for about 3 weeks and then the eggs/fry disapeared. They they just quit, the male quit showing good color and quit shaking. Is spawning seasonal, or could there be something going on. What typically works to trigger a spawn. Large water change? temperature change? Thanks

What are your water parameters? GH, KH, PH, temp, NO3, Lack of color isn't a good thing, and something is causing it...?

Large water changes are a good start, fasting for a few days while leaving the lights off, then feeding a highly palatable food like mysis or brine shrimp usually works.

It seems like temperature must have been the key. They would breed every summer and then shut down. I raised the temp in the tank this winter to 82 and have had spawning/recovery/spawning all winter long.

what kind of cyps do u have? and quantity and male fem ratio?? i find they breed well in larger groups and alot of females in the group..

i usually only keep 2 males to 8 females in groups of 20 or more..

50% water changes weekly and alternate feeding schedules along w temp
fluxuations..they usually knock up 5-10 females @ a time..

water conditions perfect and they feed on a variety of pellts(mostly nls)
and fronen foods..

frozen brine
frozen spirolina brine
frozen mysis
frozen krill
frozen daphnia

freeze dried mysis
graze flake

leptomosa, i have two males, 4 confirmed females and one smaller fish that i'm not sure about. I have three more juvies i would like to add, about an inch and a half but wasn't sure if they were big enough to survive with the others yet. and your right when they spawn all four females get pregnant at the same time.

only 78 which i thought it was supposed to be at, gets too warm to control in the summer but that seems to be ideal for them
