I have been raising cichlids for a few years now mainly malawi. My wife got some frontosa ane we have had them almost a 1 1/2 years now they are about 3 to 4 inches long, and some are starting to get there humps now. When will they be ready to breed. We are really looking forward to the event. Any help will be greatful Thanks

You could see some activity soon, probaly not though. Just wait and it will happen. One male and the rest females will help make sure you go t a place for them to spawn, I've used a flat rock they tend to like that. give them a little longer to bigger then do a large water change that will help trigger it also no more than 30% though. Sometimes raising the P.H. will trigger it. what is your P.H. at now?

I assume you buy your frontosa at at least 1.5". With 1.5 year, they seem to grow slow in your tank. What size tank are you housing them in?

My smallest male was 6.5" breed with a female at 3.5". Those were breed at age 1.5 year give or take a month or 2. I know the time frame cause those were raised from egg to adult breeder.

Thank you for the info I have my fronts in a 75 gal at this point looking to upgrade latter this year to a 150. when we got our fronts they were 1.5" to 2" long now my largest is about 4" to 4.5" I have 2 in the tank that dont seem to have grown much still about 2" to 2.5" again thank you for the info
