Hi there,

I've recently just bought my first batch of Malawi Cichlids, but need help identifying the species and importantly the sex of each, as I'm just attempting to set up an all Male tank.

I've been fish-keeping for over 10 years now, however I've only just started a new cichlid only tank.

Anyone willing to species / sex identify these cichlids?

Many thanks!

1. A. jacobfreibergi type prob the common unnatural "Eureka"

2. Scienochromis fryeri or hybrid of one, hybrids are common, males get intense shiny blue, called the "Electric Blue Hap" or "Ahli"

3. Protomelas "Red Empress" mostly at least, should color up blue and red nicely

4. Aulonocara sp. Yellow or man bred Red, these fish are often vague and hard to an exact ID but he seems colorful

5. cross generic hybrid called OB Peacock

1-4 are male, have male colors. 5 hard to tell if there is any color beyond the base.
