So I normally leave my tank light off during the day as I'm not home. Today I turned the lights on to check up on the fish and saw this black spot on one of the Venustus in the tank. It eats fine and isn't showing signs of discomfort.
I haven't been able to find anything online about black spots for cichlids save for Blood Parrots.

Is this a cause for concern?

Welcome to C-F!!!

I'm not sure if it is a concern. It may be pigment and I can't tell if it is an injury or if there are missing scales. If you don't see a change over the next couple days, it is probably nothing.

Does it have any similar spots on the other side of its body?

How long have you had this fish?

That's the only spot on its body and no other fish has it. I've had the fish for two weeks now. The scales look fine and there doesn't appear to be any type of damage.

I tried to take a better photo.
