I have just inherited an aquarium complete with a variety of cichlids.

I have fallen in love with them and have been trying to identify them from looking at pictures etc. I think I have the following:

1 x cory cat
6 x pearl cichlid (Geophagus brasiliensis)
2 x Fire Mouth cichlid (Thorichthys meeki)
1 x Red-tailed shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor)
1 x large blue fish - I have no idea what it is
3 x Sail fin plecos

I would love to find out what type of fish the large blue one, or if I have mis-identified any of them

At the moment I am just concentrating on keeping them alive - so any advice is welcome!!

In the long term, I think I might echange two of the plecos for other cichlids, so would like to know what I have, so make sure any future fish will be compatible

That large blue one is a Hoplarchus psittacus or the True Parrot cichlid. A fairly unusual and highly valued fish! Congratulations

The other fish are indeed Geo. brasiliensis and Firemouths.

Thanks a million for that Andy - I'll be able to go and get googling on that

I had no idea that it was unusual in any way - I might have to revise my plan of ultimately getting a tank mate for it!!
