Hi,
In my setup I had a pair of Apisto Baenschi's, they were very happy and active. However the female mysteriously died (I suspect it was because of a drastic water temp change) and now the male has become very shy... The water quality is very good, the lighting is good, the temp is perfect and consistent (Now) and there are a good few hiding places for him, there are also a nice active school of tetras in there with him??? can anyone give me some suggestions as to why he's so shy all of a sudden...

It is a small setup but I thought these male dwarf cichlids were OK on there own???

try adding something for him to pick on. either that or get a cpl more females. most LFS will give u a better price on the girls since they arent pretty and typically dont sell as well as the males. just imo. GL to ya.
