This guy was in an unlabled tank at about 2"...

It looked just like a Salvini... I suspected male...

Well about 6 months later it's definitely not a Salvini... but it has a crush on my female Salvini... who hates him...

What is he?

He has the exact body shape as a Jag... but based on coloration & pattern he definitely is not a Jag...

I can only imagine it is in the same family as Jags… Here is the species list in our Profiles section for Parachromis:

After looking over those profiles I would lean toward Mota first… with loisellei & friedrichsthalii both possibilities… Yet in all reality I have to accept it is possibly a hybrid of two or more of the fish mentioned…

I have to emphasize how prominent his red freckles area… they are dots not squiggles… and they are throughout almost his entire body…

Deffinately looks Moto to my eye, but Parachromis are deffinately not my speciality. I don't think Loisellei, they have more sloped heads from what I've seen. Pretty guy though.

The pic above was taken by a friend last weekend... I can never get nice close ups... it shows the detail of his color very well...

I tried to get a good one of him tonight but he doesn't like me... this one does show his body/fin shape better...

...I'm willing to settle on Mota though...
