Hello all, I have a very bright orange african cichlid (not sure of species). He is the only fish that I have in my 29-gallon tank at the moment. He is about 2.5-3". I was just wondering if he will do fine living by himself. I would actually prefer to keep him by himself but not if it is not in his best interest. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

There are many differing opinions on this subject. Mine is that the goal of Africans is to dominate and chase all other fish out of their territory.
One of the reasons that any animal becomes territorial is so that it can have unlimited access to two things: food and mating partners. I personally don't think fish have any emotional attachments to their mates nor get any personal satisfaction out of mating so if they can have access to 100% of the food and 100% of the territory that would seem like the ideal situation to me :D
